I finally went and bought a pack of Cheatin’ maple bacon, I have been waiting so long to try it. The pack contains quite a few rashers so I was able to use it in a few different ways.
First of all the taste is lovely, there’s a good smoke flavour and it’s both salty and sweet. The texture is soft, smooth and a little chewy. The first way I used the bacon was with beans and hash browns, the bacon obviously went well with breakfast theme and the flavour of the bacon was the perfect partner for the sweet sauce of the beans. The next thing I added the bacon to was a bean goulash, while I feel that this dish could have used something thicker than bacon, the flavour again suited this dish very well. The sweet, sticky and spicy mixture worked brilliantly with the sweetness of the bacon. Finally, I used the last two rashers in a sandwich with peanut butter, and this was maybe the nicest meal I had from this product. I bought the bacon from Holland & Barrett but I lost the receipt and can’t remember how much I paid for it, although I remember it being a reasonable price.
The ingredients of the bacon are as follows: Water, wheat gluten, soya protein, non-hydrogenated vegetable fat (sustainable palm), textured wheat protein, potato starch, salt, dried yeast, sugar, natural flavourings, thickener: carrageenan, preservative: potassium sorbate, onion powder, and colour: iron oxide.
Have an amazing day
