Tesco free from strawberry and vanilla cones

Evening everyone, I’m a bit behind on posting these last two reviews so I’m going to post them both at once,

While I was looking for free from products in Tesco I came across something I hadn’t seen before and I had to buy it to see what it was like. I’m talking about strawberry and vanilla dairy-free ice cream cones.

These looked a lot like Cornettos and, at least for me, held the promise that summer wasn’t over and that I could enjoy some lovely dairy free ice creams before the six months of Welsh rain began.

The ice cream is very sweet and doesn’t have much of a flavour, there’s an artificial strawberry taste which made me glad the taste wasn’t strong. The vanilla tastes kind of like Swedish Glace ice cream, if you’ve ever tried that, but creamier. The entire mixture of ice cream was creamy, but I found that it left a film and an aftertaste which wasn’t fantastic. There’s a little bit of strawberry sauce on top and the centre is the same sauce all the way down to the end of the cone, but this tastes a bit artificial as well. This is especially strange since the cones contain both real strawberry pulp and juice. The chocolate around the edge is nice, but there isn’t enough and it melts very quickly when eating the ice cream, so you are left with plain cone. The cone is sugary, and gluten free. I’ve never eaten gluten free wafer before so I don’t know if this cone is standard but I wasn’t fussed. Something about it just isn’t right, it’s too crunchy and has an odd flavour to it. Overall, the only part that I really enjoyed was the chocolate filled bit at the bottom of the cone, which was actually really nice. I will admit that these observations were from the first cone, and as I ate more of them I almost acclimatised myself to the taste and texture and they weren’t that bad. They weren’t fantastic, and I don’t want to rave about them. They were just okay. I paid £2 for four 120ml cones, so you can’t really argue with that.
