Food Heaven dairy free lemon cheesecake

Hi everyone,

well who’d have believed it, I’m back again for another blog post! Today was a particularly stressful day in work as they were setting up all sorts of new equipment and software. I also made the mistake of letting on that I know my way around a computer and now people keep asking me for help. Nightmare. I have managed to get a lot of stuff done since I finished at 5 though, and took part in a twitter chat today so this blog is last on my to do list.

Today I’m going to give a review of my Christmas dinner dessert, the Food Heaven dairy free lemon cheesecake.

Now I know Christmas seems like an eternity ago but I’m still catching up with my blogs, and I figured that people bang on about the holiday for months before it so why can’t I talk a bit about it now? Anyway, I’ve had my eye on this cheesecake for a while and always talked myself out of buying it for some reason. So I was delighted when my mother surprised me with it at Christmas dinner. I always find that a nice lemon or fruit based dessert is a lot lighter after a heavy meal than chocolate puddings so I knew that after my Christmas dinner this was going to be perfect.

The first thing I noticed was that the cheesecake was not nearly as impressive as it looks on the box, it was quite thin in comparison, more like the height of a lemon tart. I wish I’d taken a photo of a slice so I could show you. Despite my disappointment in it’s height the cheesecake was lovely, not really the texture of cheesecake but still sweet, tangy and creamy. The lemon wasn’t overpowering and it worked really well. However, the base was not very nice, it was like very fine loose biscuit and I found it quite gritty. In the end I ate the lemon part and left the base entirely because the texture repulsed me if I’m quite honest. If I could change this dessert I’d ask for a thicker cheesecake with a different base, I don’t think I’d buy it for myself even though, on the whole, I liked it. I’m going to have a look to see if I can find another vegan cheesecake so I can compare them.
