Going a little crazy for Tofurky

As this post goes live I am just over half way through my first 11 hour shift of the week, this week is a very long one, the longest I’ve worked so far so all my posts this week have been scheduled ahead of time.

Lately I’ve gone a little crazy for Torfuky, I know it’s bad because it’s quite expensive but they shouldn’t make it so delicious! Today I’m going to review some slices, sausages and bacon.

When I saw this smokey maple bacon tempeh I had to buy it, I’ve never eaten tempeh before and I’m not like a massive fan of bacon but this sounded tasty. The flavour was salty, smoky and sweet but I couldn’t get over the texture which is basically soya beans bound together. It felt too bitty, I liked the almost nutty texture but it didn’t feel right for bacon flavour. I don’t think I’d buy it again, it was my first bit of disappointment from the brand. I paid £3.79 for the 198g pack.



Ingredients: Organic soybeans, water, shoyu soy sauce (water, non-GMO soybeans, wheat, salt, culture), molasses, maple syrup, natural smoke flavor, autolyzed yeast extract, salt, organic apple cider vinegar, starter culture (rhizopus oligosporous).

While I was shopping for the bacon I also decided to finally buy the chick’n and apple sausages, I’ve been put off by the price but I figured that if I’m going all in then I’m going all in. The sausages are thick and substantial, the taste is sweet and cinnamon but also a little peppery. They probably would have gone better with vegan chicken, waffles and maple syrup but I had them with beans and hash browns. They were super delicious and I would happily eat them again. I paid £3.79 for the 397g pack.



Ingredients: Vital wheat gluten, water, potatoes, organic tofu (water, organic soybeans, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride), expeller pressed non-genetically engineered canola oil, wheat flour, apple juice, dehydrated apples, shoyu soy sauce (water, non genetically engineered soybeans, wheat, salt, culture), wheat berries, molasses, potassium chloride, oat fiber, garlic puree, natural vegetarian flavors, sunflower oil, sesame oil, natural smoke flavor, paprika, spices, lemon juice concentrate, salt, gum arabic.

Finally, I usually pick up a pack of Tofurky slices for work sandwiches, the slices I usually use are the hickory smoked but for sake of variety I decided to try the oven roasted variety. They are full flavoured, although I’m not sure it’s an authentic turkey taste as I don’t know what that tastes like. The colour isn’t the most pleasant but they tear okay and are nice in a sandwich. They are a little salty but they are very moist and last for ages, they also pair better with a wider range of Violife slices than the smoked version. I paid £2.85 for the 155g pack.


Ingredients: Water, wheat protein, organic tofu (water, organic soybeans, magnesium chloride, calcium chloride), non genetically engineered canola oil, natural vegetarian flavors, shoyu soy sauce (water, non genetically engineered soy beans, wheat, salt, culture), non genetically engineered corn starch, white bean flour, garbonzo bean flour, lemon juice from concentrate, garlic, onion, calcium lactate from beets.
