It’s Wednesday, my first long shift of the week on the busiest week of the month at work. Fun times. I also have my pre-assessment for my operation tomorrow morning, and a night shift to follow it so I’m probably going to be recovering on the weekend. Hopefully the operation will happen soon because I hate waiting around, I just want to get it over and done with. Also, two weeks off work would be fantastic.
On a lighter note, today I have a post I’ve been meaning to write for a while, on vegan ice cream, it started out as a two item post but because of the delay I’ve added another three products for you.
The first product I tried was the salted caramel ice cream from Almond Dream. I was pretty excited for this, so much so that I took a bus from work to my local Morrison’s to buy it. However, it was probably the worst product in this review, in my opinion. Firstly, it’s quite watery despite having a creaminess to it. It also has a very plant based taste to it and I didn’t like the aftertaste. The ground almonds throughout were not a pleasant texture for me, overall I just didn’t like it and ended up feeling very disappointed. Also, for an almond product, 5% almond content feels stingy. I paid around £4 for the 472ml pot.

The next product I bought reignited my excitement for ice cream, it’s the Swedish Glace mini strawberry Magnum style ice creams. They definitely look like Magnums and they have nice strawberry scent. I really liked the chocolate coating which was smooth and delicious. The chocolate works well with the strawberry flavour and the ice cream is soft and creamy. I think that the mini size is perfect because I don’t know if I could manage a full sized one. I paid £3 for a box of 5 at Tesco.

Tesco’s free from range is getting better and better, with a few new additions including the next two products I’m going to review, firstly the toffee and vanilla flavour cones. The ice cream inside these is almost fluffy and definitely soft and creamy. I did notice a little funny aftertaste with these but I didn’t mind it so much. The thing I don’t like about these cones is the wafer cone itself, I just think it has a funny taste which doesn’t agree with me. The product is very sweet and the chocolate at the end of the cone is just perfect, however I think the two boxes I bought had melted at some point because the chocolate at the crown of the cone was non-existent and towards the end of the cone the chocolate had leaked through the wafer. I paid £2 for a pack of 4.

The second new Tesco product I bought was the fruit splits, I really liked these, having the combination of fruity ice and creamy ice cream was a nice change and something I haven’t had for some time. They definitely made me feel summery and I liked that the flavours were ones that I enjoyed. I paid £2 for a pack of 6 and they didn’t last very long.

Finally, a new product from Sainsbury’s free from range, which is also increasing, the strawberry iced dessert. This has to be my favourite product of this review, it’s refreshing and light whilst also being sugary and creamy. There’s a delicious back taste of coconut and the strawberry flavour is very nostalgic. This product is absolutely delicious and I will be stocking up next time I go shopping. I paid £3 for a 480ml pot.
