Lettices review

Hi everyone,

I posted five minutes ago about why I haven’t been around this week so if you want to go read that feel free, and if you’d rather just read my reviews then that’s okay as well. I also thought that I’d let you know that my schedule is changing, I’ll be posting Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If I go somewhere in the week that I think is interesting then I will also post about that on the weekend. Hopefully that’s something that I can keep up with.

 

Today I’m reviewing a couple of products from Lettices.

I didn’t even know this brand existed until Vegfest and I was super excited to try out their products. I bought the ribs, ham and camembear spread.

The sticky ribs were definitely the best of the selection, they were easy to cook (you can get different texture if you bake or fry them) and I found that there was quite a lot of product in the bag. I loved everything about these ribs, the sauce was amazing, sweet and smoky with plenty of flavour, and the texture was lovely, soft with a slight chew. I could’ve eaten three bags of this product and I wouldn’t think twice about buying them again.

Ingredients: BBQ Sauce: Dark Brown Sugar, Vegan Worcestershire Sauce, Soy Sauce, Dijon Mustard, Tomato Paste, Balsamic Vinegar, Liquid Smoke, White Wine Vinegar, Apple Juice, Ketchup. Ribs: Soy Sauce, Nutritional Yeast, Smooth Peanut Butter, Tomato Paste, Fresh Garlic Cloves, Red Miso Paste, Water, Wheat Gluten, Porcini Mushroom Powder, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Ground White Pepper, Oil.

The holiday ham was slightly less impressive as even though it had a really lovely sweet and savoury meat flavour the texture felt a little too hard. Although it was really delicious in a sandwhich.

Ingredients: Water, Light Brown Sugar, Nutritional Yeast, Vegetable Oil, Red Miso Paste, Liquid Smoke, Salt, Smoked Paprika, Whole Cloves, Ground Ginger, White Pepper, Vital Wheat Gluten, Plain Flour, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Soy Sauce, Dijon Mustard.

Finally, the camembear spread was soft with a really strong taste and a salty sharpness. While I felt I had a back taste of soy I felt like the taste was very authentic, delivering a lovely camembert taste which was amazing on toast. However, I would have preferred a product that had the right texture as well, I feel like camembert (at least for me) was a little bit of theatre, dipping into creamy stretchy cheese. I know that this product didn’t claim to deliver that but although I liked the taste I felt like something was missing.

Ingredients: Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, Coconut Oil, Pure Soymilk (Soy beans & filtered water), Organic Tapioca Flour, Nutritional Yeast, White Miso Paste, Kappa Carrageenan, Salt, White Truffle Oil.

All these products are available on their website for £5 each plus delivery, they are handmade quality products and I have no issue with their price. Lettices also make cottage cheese, mozzarella, blue cheese, feta, pepperoni and burgers. I did have a chance to try some of their other cheeses at Vegfest but if I was to purchase anything else I think it would be the pepperoni, burgers and mozzarella. And maybe three packs of ribs.
