Alpro Dessert Moments Review

Evening everyone,

I feel like this year is a series of unforunate events, with my recent health issues, my grandmother falling ill and now I’ve been told my surgery has been cancelled due to a mistake so Im left in limbo as to what’s happening with my new job and when the next date of my operation will be. I am so exhausted from trying to sort everything out all the time, I just think I’m burnt out. I need some serious me time.

Today I’m reviewing two of Alpro’s dessert moments.

When I see new products that I can eat from a supermarket I snap them up, even if I’m pretty sure that I won’t like them that much. As I’ve said before I don’t really like nut milks so I was a little apprehensive about trying these soya and nut desserts from Alpro. All these desserts have added calcium and vitamins, and are dairy and gluten free.

The first flavour I tried was the hazelnut chocolate, I noticed that these have the same texture as their other desserts and this one is pretty much the same as their regular chocolate dessert. There’s an almost dairy taste to this flavour, and I noticed the soya a little less. The chocolate was the prominent flavour in the pot, with the hazelnut being more of an aftertaste. I thought the flavour was okay but I wish that they had done something different with the texture, like a mousse perhaps.

Ingredients: Water, Sugar, Hulled Soya Beans (5.2%), Modified Maize Starch, Fat Reduced Cocoa (2%), Hazelnuts (1.5%), Chocolate (0.8%) (Sugar, Cocoamass, Fat-Reduced Cocoa Powder), Calcium (Calcium Carbonate), Thickener (Carrageenan), Sea Salt, Acidity Regulator (Monopotassium Phosphate), Flavouring, Vitamins (Riboflavin (B2), B12, D2).

The second flavour I tried was the almond vanilla, I knew that I would prefer the first flavour when I picked this up because I don’t like almonds, or anything flavoured with almond. This pot had the same texture but was sweeter than the chocolate flavour. It had a fairly strong almond flavour which reminded me of marzipan. It just wasn’t for me.

Ingredients: Water, Sugar, Hulled Soya Beans (6%), Modified Maize Starch, Almond (1.7%), Calcium (Calcium Carbonate), Natural Vanilla Flavour , Thickener (Carrageenan), Acidity Regulator (Monopotassium Phosphate), Flavouring, Sea Salt, Vitamins (Riboflavin (B2), B12, D2), Colours (Curcumin, Annatto).

These dessert moments come in a 4x125g pack and are available at Tesco for £1 at the moment, they are usually £2. Alpro also make a coconut flavour in this range but I haven’t seen it in Tesco, and I think I would avoid a coconut dessert with this texture anyway.

I hope you’ve had a great start to your week,

SIG5

  1. I got some from Tesco’s as well, including the coconut ones which I haven’t yet tried. The hazelnut and chocolate ones were on special offer for a quid at Morrison’s a couple of weeks ago, but sold out pretty quick; it is so long since I have consumed dairy I couldn’t really make a comparison.
